Medical Final
This cat is being placed on medical final for 10/14 due to significant ongoing medical needs that require further diagnostics and treatment.
The cat has had fluctuating weight while in the shelter, along with a thyroid level that falls in a borderline/“grey zone” range. Further bloodwork is recommended to determine whether this represents early hyperthyroidism, developing hyperthyroidism, or another underlying condition. BUN is also elevated, and additional testing is needed to determine whether this is related to dehydration, early kidney disease, or another cause.
The cat also has significant dental disease and will likely require an extensive dental procedure, including treatment of affected teeth as indicated.
At this time, the combination of inconsistent weight, muscle wasting, dehydration, possible thyroid disease, possible kidney disease, and significant dental disease makes this cat medically challenging to manage in a shelter environment.
For these reasons, we are placing this cat on medical final for 10/14. Placement with either a dedicated adopter or rescue is appropriate, provided they are able and willing to provide the necessary follow-up veterinary care, additional laboratory testing, dental treatment, and close monitoring of weight and overall condition.
She is very friendly and deserving of a soft place to land, she has already been in the shelter for a month.

Due out: 8/28/26
Lily is a senior cat (estimated 10+) - female presumed intact - who was found stray. She is affiliative and handleable.
Pertinent abnormal medical physical exam findings:
- Moderate muscle wasting, and mild underconditioning
- Vocal in kennel (could be personality or could be indicative of underlying disease)
- Missing all but 5 teeth, and 5 teeth that remain are diseased
- Ear infections (this has already been treated with medical team)
- Lily appears comfortable in her limbs but may have some lower back discomfort. She is not lame and ambulates normally in her kennel.
Miss Lily had senior bloodwork run:
- She has very mild BUN elevation, normal creatinine and SDMA. Creatinine may actually be higher than is reading out given that Lily is muscle wasted. Kidneys palpate normally. Lily may have very early (stage 1) renal disease. Alternatively, the BUN could be elevated due to other causes. Repeat labwork is recommended no later than 6 months from now to recheck kidney values and pair with urinalysis.
- She has borderline high total T4 (4.8 ug/dL ref range 0.8-4.7) - given that she is underweight and vocal she has some clinical signs that might fit with hyperthyroid disease but her results are borderline. She needs this total T4 checked again in 1-2 months and if persistently borderline, and particularly if result is higher, she will need treatment for thyroidal illness long-term
- She has a *very* mild anemia, likely secondary to other illness in body
- She has a high eosinophil count, which could be due to allergies, parasites, or other disease in body
Lily has been dewormed, treated for fleas, vaccinated and is in need of URGENT senior rescue who can monitor her bloodwork (particularly thyroid and renal values), and who is prepared to provide a senior-friendly living environment for her. It is also recommended that her remaining teeth be cleaned/extracted as needed.
