A320796

Located At: Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter - Santa Cruz
Description: Staff named me Boomer and I am a neutered male, brown and black German Shepherd Dog mix.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 4 years old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jul 22, 2025.
Boomer has been going out on little vacations from the Shelter with a wonderful foster parent Bryan! He reports: “Just wanted to give an update on Boomer’s weekend. Things went very well. He seems to have settled and relaxed a lot here. He is very kind and affectionate, loves giving kisses and getting belly rubs. He’s also a keen learner. He seems to be incredibly motivated by affirmation and seems to want to do what he supposed to. So far he’s shown that he can sit and lie down on command, and drop things he’s not supposed to touch. I put him on a long leash and he showed than he will come back on command, he did this every time in a relatively low distraction setting. We’re also training him to stay off the couch, he’s learning but he seems to really want to climb up on it. He starting to learn what he can chew and what he can’t chew. He definitely seems to like to chew things but I can see him start to correct himself on things that he’s been taught not to chew. But had to keep a bit of a watchful eye to make sure he didn’t grab loose rags or towels. He had one accident in the house right when he arrived but I think it was just a product of decompressing. Since then no issues. We went for a lengthy hike in Niscene Marks on Saturday and beach walks Friday and Sunday. He did very well on the hike. It was nice and cool inside the forest and we were able to explore for about three hours.”

Boomer's adoption fee is sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation thanks to “Leave No One Behind fund” – designed to adopter’s eyes towards animals who have been in the Shelter’s care a little longer than average waiting for the right adopter.
