A327819

Located At: Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter - Santa Cruz
Description: Staff named me Spot and I am a neutered male, white and brown Pit Bull Terrier mix.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 10 months old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jan 21, 2026.
Meet Spot, the pint sized pittie mix! Spot came to the Shelter with his brother Spec. A good Samaritan had been caring for them for a few months after they were left on her property with their mom. Unable to keep them long term – the good sam provided wonderful socialization to get them started off on the right paw and even some initial vaccinations before bringing them to the Shelter to find adoptive homes. At the Shelter, Spec and Spot were fairly nervous so they are in a foster home where it is a bit quieter and less spooky. We are looking for two separate adopters to take them in. The foster reports the following about Spot: “Spot is a super lovebug, curious, and a bit shy (compared to Spec), but loves people, cuddling in bed at night, getting pets, and he loves it when I put his leash on to go outside in my yard.” Spot is still perfecting potty training. He sleeps in the crate at night (with the door open). They have met some friends who have come over to visit. Spot has previously been in a home with other dogs and enjoyed their company. A canine play friend in the home may be a fit after a meet ‘n greet a the Shelter. We do not have any history of Spot with felines or young children.

The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!

Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
